The computer is so common place now that
its taken for granted and just part of life.
Almost like driving a car, there are
good drivers and bad drivers and basic guidelines that we should follow
when getting behind the wheel. Here are a few tips and pointers
about how to better use/drive the computer for your safety and
sanity.
Shut it down…

Use the “shut down” feature once in
awhile. Why is it that so many people have their computers on
24/7?. Keeping it on and online is a security risk and it's a waste of electricity.
Believe it or not, your computer does need that reboot to clear itself
of “stuff” for better efficiency and give it time to rest - it’s hard
drive and components being constantly on will definitely create wear and
tear on your computer.
Ergonomics
Remember your ergonomics.
You need
proper ergonomics - especially if you spend quite a lot of time in front
of your computer. So
remember your ergonomics, they form the basis of physical well-being.
The top of your monitor should be at eye
level, and directly centered in front of you. It should be about an
arm's length in front of you.
Your desk surface should be at roughly
belly button level. When your arms are placed on the desk, your elbows
should be at a 90 degree angle, just below the desk surface. The
armrests of your chair should be at nearly the same level as the desk
surface to support your elbows.
Your feet should be flat on the floor
with your knees at a ~90 degree angle. Your seat should not be pressing
into the back of your knees.
When typing, your wrists should be in
line with your forearms and not bent up, down, or to the side. Your
keyboard should be directly centered in front of you.
Scan it

You must install a virus scanner. Even
if it means a free one like AVG free. This is a basic necessity and critical.
Computers
malfunction due to a virus or Trojan or
something from irresponsible internet surfing and downloading.
Stretch
Prolonged exposure in the same position can kill not
only your posture, but your body over time. Set an alarm reminder if
you’re constantly busy to stand, stretch, re-hydrate
and get the blood circulating again.
